Ode to Yoyo's
You go up,
and down,
and left,
and right,
and all around.
But never break under pressure.
You’re a performer for all, young and old, sick and healthy.
With your help, amazing tricks and spectacles can emerge.
Oh sure, you may have a stunt or two may go wrong, and your string may be broken.
But that is never enough to keep you down.
Oh my dear friends, the yo yo's, can be thought as a teacher as well.
You can provide a lesson of gravity to eighth graders.
You can teach a child to be more careful,
or else he’ll have to lie about his black eye.
You can teach a classroom about how you were once thought as a weapon.
Oh my dear friends, the yo yo's, can be a childhood friend.
A man of twenty five can look through his closet and find you there.
Being there for over ten years and yet never left his side.
The memories you two hold, the tricks he pulled was far too important to forget.
So laid asleep, maybe even if forgotten, but if he picked you up and remember the old days, with tricks and spectacles to behold, then you can be happy again.
That is what a yoyo is to me,
a teacher, a childhood friend, and an entertainer.
With many scratches on it’s wooden model, it does it all,
without a single complaint.
So this why I celebrate the, oh so simple, yoyo.
