never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game

I wear the Star of David even though it’s a ‘different’ belief
I wear the SS sign even though it brings others terror

I told them “this isn’t right,”
I told them “go to the left”

Quivering lips
Cold eyes

I am separated from my family
I separate the useless from the decent

Empty stomach
Loaded gun

I can’t wait until this is all over
I can’t wait until they are all gone

Why would God do this? If he exists why would he let this happen?
He told us things would be better if we made sure they didn’t exist

Half of us dead
Half of them are still alive

I close my eyes as I walk a trail of ashes in a living hell
I watch them through the glass window as they walk into the pit of death

Another day
One more day

There has to be a solution, an end to this pain
A Final Solution

On a march to my death
They march until no one knows what we have done

I wear the Star of David
I wear the SS sign.

The author's comments:

I wrote this for my English class as part of a project for The Holocaust. Originally the voices of the SS members and the prisoners were split into two different poems. But I thought it would be more powerful to read if I put their thoughts next to each other.
