you can't | Teen Ink

you can't

today
in the hallway,
you teased me,
shoved me into the lockers
and called me stupid names
and all because
i like girls.

i liked you once.

you, with your pretty smile
and friendly attitude.

friend turned bully.

i ran away.
i ran home.
crying.

you did it the next day too.
and the next.
and the next.
andthenextandthenextandthenext
and
the
next
until one evening
you realized you were wrong
to do that
and went
to my house to apologize,
to make up, to be friends.
again.

my mom let you in and you went
up
to my room,
“sorry” about to fall
out of your lips

but too bad for you
because
you can’t apologize
to a corpse.

Your poem shows that words are often more powerful than we think, and sometimes an apology is too little, too late.

Hello fabulous person! Though I have been bullied, this poem is not about me; it's simply written in the first person.  Thanks for the feedback; it's the first comment I've ever gotten on my work. ^_^

This is beautiful. I can feel the emotion behind this and I really hope that you, Anonymous friend, are okay. If you ever want someone to talk to, I'm here. Don't let anybody push you down because you are a warrior, and nothing can stop a warrior. Not even death. Remember that you are more than your past, and you are beautiful.
