the ruler,
lips feverish,
eclipsing her eyes,
encrusting lashes to
avoid lashes from
the whips of
society

conformity is
a form of worship –
and still she kneels.


The author's comments:

i was inspired mostly by the pressure i feel from society about wearing makeup and how teenage girls have so many "standards" to live up to; we all must look gorgeously fake
