I know that I will forever recall

That patter of paws in the hall,

The clicking of nails on the wood,

The jingle of his bell;

Knowing that the day would be good

And all would end well

For in those big, sad brown eyes

The roots of joy were easy to recognize

Even as the brow around them went gray

And his age was apparent in his slander hips

He still upheld an eagerness to play

And as goofy grin broke out between his lips

But in your late vivacity, sickness had to steal thou

The memories will live on, but now you must sleep

And  I will ask the others to listen, and listen deep;

The hall is quiet now
