those who don't believe in magic will never see it

Thick sized glasses and last bench seat,
Was the impression she left on high school queens.

She wasn't just a nerd afraid to live life,
She was another dreamer waiting to fly.

She told herself she would do it one day,
She would do her hair and she would paint her nail.

She would dress herself in neat cut skirts,
With pretty pink heels and skin tight shirts.

She was a dreamer, she dreamed of the day,
When eyes would swing by at her glorious change.

She didn't want to be ‘them’ or ‘him’ or ‘her’,
She wanted to be the girl who rose from the dirt.

Because that’s what they said,
“Oh she’s just a speck of dirt!’
Lying somewhere in the corner,
Stamped upon for worse.

She wanted to fly it didn't matter where,
A try at making life less of a judging stare

So she told herself she couldn't die,
Trying to mend a broken wing.
Because all it needed was just a try,
Remove the rust and make a swing.

And she did it like she said she would,
An attempt at being more noticed than wood.

Not to be glamorous, not to be ‘her’,
But to be someone with a place on earth.

The things we do, not to perish,
Though in millions we humans the land we cherish

A funny competition amongst the human race,
To stay alive, though alive we stay.

But enough of us humans
And our quirky, weird ways,
Let’s go back to that butterfly
Caught in a human’s maze.

So she strode down the hallway
With that beautiful little dress,
And her long bony fingers
Shyly pulling up her specs.

Proud of the deed but scared of the result,
Balancing on a tightrope her confidence quivered.

Their eyes did swing by at the glamorous change,
As she got ready to open a brand new page.

But let’s go back to the human race,
How we’re quirky and weird and full of craze.

How we shrug with annoyance at that girl in school,
Who betrayed books and befriended pretty looks.

“Oh how treacherous of her to do so!,
To leave that cocoon and search for a home.”

“So now she wants pretty, now she wants cool,
Wait , does she even belong to this school?”

And this went on till on could go,
But that girl still strides with her dress and bow.

Because she didn't die mending a broken wing,
She did try and proud of it she sings.

So you don’t have to be pretty or popular or cool,
To guarantee your place in your school.

Because at the end of the day, it heed no good,
Change or not, we continue to brood.

We continue to despise and continue to criticize ,
That which is unexplainable and that which is mystified.

But she has no reason to be scared anymore,
The result doesn't matter or affect no more.

It is the attempt that’s left her high,
Soaring confidently at her fearless try.
