"Beneath the make-up and behind the smile I am just a girl who wishes for the world" -Marilyn Monroe

Admire
The beginning; tiny buds:
Curiously blossoming,
Expectant, inexperienced;
New life

Give Credit
The dutiful branches
Some aging,
Some young;
Sophisticated, or half witted;
Growth cut short, or perhaps
Outstretched;
Giving their all
Supporting:
A home

Notice
The buds metamorphosing:
Their first storm,
The touch of a rain drop
A ray of sun;
Forsaken innocence
Exposed

Feel sorry
The unlucky ones:
The catastrophic winds that blow
The fresh leaves,
Torn from their protective arms
Withered, dying
Too young

Grieve
The bite of an insect-
Toxic venom;
The monotonous drone of a saw-
Tree bodies crash in summer:
An undone society
Labelled
"Failure"

Inhale hope
Autumn's arrival-
The lucky ones;
Leaves grown old,
Memories of beauty
Seizing to live;
The fiery blaze of death
By nature
Desired

A cycle repeated;
Death:
an end
An end:
a beginning

We are the leaves

The author's comments:
Looking out the window one spring morning, I noticed the long-awaited buds were finally opening up on the trees outside my house. I thought about each of those leaves, and it hit me. Humans are like leaves.
