You,
Looking through your thick-rimmed glasses,
At your crinkled, crooked fingers.
Cradling me from birth,
As I wailed throughout the night.
Cooing, cuddling, burping, belching.

You,
In your croaky, husky, gruff voice,
Reading Clifford the Big Red Dog and The Cat in the Hat over and over again.
As I snuggled next to you,
Like a koala on a eucalyptus tree.
Growling, grunting, stuttering, snoring.

You,
With your persistence and perseverance,
Teaching me the foreign language of math.
As I grasped the concepts one at a time,
For what seemed like eternity.
Screaming, sobbing, struggling, surviving.

You,
In your fading winter of life,
Looking hoary, weary, and hunched.
As I watched your memory falter,
Like a flower wilting away.
Fragile, feeble, slow, senile.

Everything has become faint,
You no longer know my name.
But I will never forget to remember,
You.
