When you hear someone say that not all men are like that,
do not argue.
Say nothing that could be misconstrued as feminist.
Say nothing at all.
Let your silence act as agreement.

Pretend that the way your stomach clenches has nothing to do with the man approaching.
Soften yourself around the edges.
Laugh politely at the comment he makes, even though you don’t really hear it.
Walk a little bit more quickly.
Remember that not all men are like that.

When someone uses mental illness as an excuse for an act of misogyny,
do not comment.
Do not use the word misogyny.
Do not use any words.
Make sure that they don’t have to think about the victims.
Make sure that they don’t have to think about anything.

Remember horror stories about girls walking alone where they shouldn’t have
and not about men that should have kept their hands to themselves.
Pull your skirt down a little bit.
Hope it’s enough.
Wish you had just worn pants.
Remember that not all men are like that.
