I wander into its seemingly endless domain
I dare to brave it's deep and unforgiving depths
Treading with great care along its steep and rocky shores
Where many a time I have all but perished

I sink deeper into its waves,
Letting it wrap its great crooked fingers around me
Grasping me in a suffocating envelope

Yet I do not fight for air
I let its warmth surround me in an impenetrable cocoon

It wishes to take me with it
Suck me to the bottom of its dark and chilling sea
Into the deepest trench
Where unknown monsters lurk,
Where horrors of long forgotten nightmares feed

No I whisper to it calmly
You mustn't
For if I go I shall never return

With great dread and longing it releases me from its grasps
Unraveling the impenetrable cocoon
I push to the surface and once again land on the steep and rocky shores

Its fingers foam at my toes
Wishing to have me back
To pull me into its churning waters
Fill my lungs and steal my breath
Until I sink willingly to its floor

I stare into its large and daunting waves
Filled with dreams and nightmares
Mystical creatures and foul ugly monsters

I take deep and steady breaths
In time you may have me back I whisper
For now, I have survived the perils of your depths
