I Know You All to Well

May 9, 2014
I know you think you're ugly.
And that you're not enough.
And when you look in the mirror,
all you see is the half inch of fat lining your stomach.
I know you don't feel beautiful.
I know you wish your face wasn't so long.
That you had better hair.
That you hadn’t pulled out your hair.
That you were skinnier.
That your thighs were sticks.
That you could be satisfied with yourself.
And you wonder when
that will happen.
I know you wish that you weren't so weird.
That you weren't such a spaz.
I know you wish you could be generic.
A perfect piece of the puzzle,
and not that jagged piece that you are now.
I know you wish you could be perfect.
and that everyone liked you.
That kids wouldn't float away when you approach them.
That teachers you love, didn't turn their withering glances and sighs on you.
That you could be popular.
I know you want to be someone.
The person who makes a difference.
And changes the world.
I know you want to be recognized.
I know you long to be happy with yourself.
Proud of yourself.
The happiest girl in the world.
I know you all to well.
I know you're crushing your dreams,
as you rip apart your every flaw,
as you tell yourself
that you're ugly.
That no one will ever love you.
That you will never make a difference.
That you are nothing.
That you don't matter.
I know you all to well.
I know you will someday break.
And at that breaking point,
you will become the girl of your dreams,
or a monster.
And I know it is up to you to decide,
whether or not you become that.
Look. Listen. Stop caring about
what you look like.
what others think of you.
And build yourself up to a mountain.
