Pastel pink petals rain down,
Drifting downward,
?Weaving between outstretched branches.
They settle on the railing or,
Float on the still water below.
Strolling beside rippling water and swaying trees,
I inhale deeply,
Catching hints of the slight fragrance wafting in the air.
Unsuspecting turtles and fish,
Tread water flecked with blossoms.
Smiling, I rush forward to savor the thrill of wind blowing through my clothes.
Sakura trees surround me, gracefully inclining toward the river.
Branches ornamented with cherry blossoms,
Sway in the breeze.
Flowers in full bloom experience the infinite cycle of life and death,
Carried by the wind, they swirl around me.
Reaching up, I gently shake a tree branch,
Muted blooms resiliently ride gusts of air and,
Catching one, I tuck it behind my ear.
The rain turns into a shower of petals,
Floating turbulently to the ground.
Above me, clouds gather forming vague shapes,
Light rain speckles my pale forearms and,
A mild zephyr glides through the trees.
Shutting my eyes firmly,
I lose myself in the giddy happiness of living.
Unable to distinguish my past from my present,
I allow my cherry blossom memories,
To fuse together seamlessly.

This is a poem based on memories I have of walking among the cherry blossoms when I lived in Tokyo.
