He's there when I wake up,
not offended by the bitter breath
that leaks from my mouth as I kiss him
on the head.
He lies on me, trying to capture
my full attention.
Undaunted by looks,
he toys with my ratty hair and is transfixed
by the stretching of my body.
His tail flicks back and forth,
a metronome timing
his attack.
A rumble from inside him arises as
he pounces for me.
