"Believe you can and you're half way there."-Theodore Roosevelt

A world of greed,
covered in weeds.
The sun shines
But the white zinnia dies
while the red poppies continue to grow
our hearts and soul
reveal no more,
merely the weeds
that feed off like a leech
on the blood of the Earth.
Poison overtakes
and the weeds remain.
Flashing lights and sheer dust
take our memories.
Mindless monsters grow inside us,
as we scream and cry.
The pain cedes,
as we fill with greed.
The souls leave,
filling the air with smog.
The night shatters,
breaking the moon and red stars
into fragile pieces.
Machines and robots
overtake our hearts.
The gears turn and turn,
and our legs click with every step.
We stand at the edge,
waiting for more,
but nothing awaits.
The sun cedes to shine,
and the red poppies grow.
The moon’s face becomes bleak,
as the chiming clock cries in pain.
Cynical trees and dreary weeds
remain near the ashes.
The arms of the trees grasp
our cold iron wrists.
Dragging us into the dark
corners of the Earth.
We dig and dig, shoveling into the
deep grounded core, but we find no remains of our soul.
Statues stand gleaming in gold,
while we stand in despair searching for more,
in the dark abyss.
We live in an empty world with empty souls
full of greed and envy for each other.
Like a never ending carousel
we wonder when this will end.
The poor become covered in ashes,
suffocating for gold.
While the rich bathe in riches,
but still asking for more.
Lighting strikes us down,
and black smoke fills our lungs.
Houses burn, and fall apart
as the fire spits and laughs.
The ocean sinks,
and the red herring stands watching.
