Our eyes meet across a crowded room,
and I know.

I know your hopes
your aspirations
your dreams
dreams you think are too precious to say aloud and set free
because they might fly away if you do.

I know your fears
your shame
the skeletons in your closet that you want to forget
because they're too painful to think about.

I know your scars.
the ones engraved on your heart.
the ones etched in your soul.

I see you, and I know.
Now, if only
I had the courage
to say hello.
