be here now.

There is a girl
with eyes
the brightest of blues
that reflect your wildest dreams
and if you look closely
you might see
a pod of dolphins
swimming gayly
in her pupils

There is a girl
with skin so pale
and translucent
it is the color
of milky foam caps
and sand
sparkling in the sun
at high noon

There is a girl
who craved something new
and went in search
of the greatest adventure
I hear she ended up
at the ocean;
a whole new world
spread out before her

There is a girl
who tested the boundaries
of the unknown
and the unexplored
I hear she dipped her toe
in the water
and craved more

There is a girl
who craved answers
and asked
too many questions
she tested the waters
and they welcomed her home
so she decided
to stay awhile

There is a girl
who just wanted
to stand out
so she stood in the frigid waters
of the different
and they called
her back
from the shore

There is a girl
who swims past
the boundaries
of the usual
and treads water
with danger
because ropes
and buoys
are not enough
to keep her in

There is a girl
whose curiosity
knows no limits
so she asked the dolphins
and the fish
for answers
and they showed her
secrets beyond her dreams

There is a girl
who made friends
with those
who quenched
her curiosity
but she was still thirsty
and full to the brim
bubbling with questions
so she swam out farther

There is a girl
who got lost
in the sea
of the answers
she found
and her friends
were too far away
to pull her back in

There is a girl
who grew tired
from treading
so much water
and tried to swim back
but didn't know
which way
the shore was
so she swam in circles

There is a girl
who cried out
for help
but swallowed salt
and choked on seaweed
and her voice was lost
to the cawing
of the gulls

There is a girl
who wanted
to stand out
who asked
too many questions
and got lost at sea
because she wasn't
tied down tight enough

There was a girl
I hear
she was called
the Sea Girl
