Ever since the first day I met him he's had me falling,
Toppling, head over heels.
I'm a secure person.
I don't like surprises,
Or the unknown.
And that's all he ever was.

Held at arms length,
He was the only person I gave into.
Kept at a distance,
But loved him more than anybody near.

Small brushes in the hallways,
Glances from across the cafeteria,
Seldom texts,
And phone calls until dawn,
Somehow they weren't enough.

Seven years of patience.
Hoping for my chance.

Seven years of fighting the desperate yearning.
Long nights filled with tears, sobbing over unanswered questions.

Seven years of questioning.
Wondering why I wasn't good enough.

Seven years spent falling in love.

They say the luckiest number is seven,
And I can't disagree.
Once upon a late fall morning,
Seven years later,
Whispered promises,
"It's always been you."
All of my dreams came true when his lips met mine for the first,
And what I feared could be the last, time.
