We Are Art

The sky is bluish purple
like a watercolor painting
and the trees are dramatically silhouetted,
as if drawn by thick pastels.

Leaves catch the light, a yellow crayon,
and a lamp throws dark charcoal shadows over the small bench.

I stand behind the bench,
a girl in pastel white and acrylic red,
watching the paper-maché sun
sink over the penciled
horizon.
