You (Again)

My nerves are fraying
Like ancient guitar strings,
And it’s you on my mind.

Always you and
The way you peel your oranges,
So carefully,
And pick off the white bits
(Calcium makes strong bones)
Before eating the flesh.

Where do the cast-off ones go
When no one wants them?
(I am still here.)

When the leaves are blazing
And the air smells of smoke,
There will be parties,
And you will be there,
And I won’t be invited,
But I’ll think of you.

And I am mad at you,
And I am mad because of you,
And maybe I’m even a little
Mad for you

But it doesn’t matter
Because you’re giving me wrinkles,
And I simply won’t stand for it.
