I Have Been

I have been wrapped in ragged quilts
kissed on the forehead
and stumbled up moaning stairs.

I have built a fort in the snow
and spent the night under a pin-pricked sky.
I have spent life barefoot,
grown up on a bicycle, and run home to a strong whistle.

I have always had a shadow
to chase and to follow.
I have become accustomed to
knowing everyone and everyone knowing me,
to a familiar world.
I have always had a small town heart.

This was a loosely restricted English assignment which, though simple, brought back touching memories.

"Colour my life with the chaos of trouble"

This is a lovely poem. It contains a really strong use of imagery.
