say cheese

the cameras flash bright;
we are picture-perfect.
we kiss and we smile,
we love and we blush,
we laugh and we hug.

yet we’re not a photo;
life’s not picture-perfect.
we scream and we lie,
we thrash and we hate,
we hurt and we fight.

the greatest lie of all,
framed photos on our walls.
behind bogus smiles,
there exists nothing –
no happy ending.

but photos tear, rip, and wear,
the image fades away.
then arrives the day
we finally become
totally nothing.
