I woke you when you were
Pale small and innocent

The Dippers reeled and
The frogs sang, the
Grass moist green and fresh
Between tender toes
As sister shadows leapt the stone wall
Running free to the lavender meadows.
I took your hand warm and soft
Kissed your fingertips, said
Annie we can touch the Milky Way.
Lights on the front porch.
Close your eyes Annie

Your hand slipped in mine

Boots across the dirt
Frogs not singing
Broken glass and drunken stench
Smoke where there is no fire.
Hide Annie, don't look
Grip the heavy tool
C*** it, press the cold dead button
