“What man calls civilization always results in deserts. Man is never on the square – he uses up the fat and greenery of the earth. Each generation wastes a little more of the future with greed and lust for riches.” -- Don Marquis

The track starts as gravel, crunching underneath my feet
Stirring up dirt with each new step
I pick up my pace and my feet slap the ground
Faster and stronger than ever before,
I find a rhythm that melds together with the other runners
Creating a bold loud symphony, changing every second
I follow the never ending trail and open my eyes
To the wonders in my life I so frequently overlook
I take in the sight of a cherry blossomed tree
Standing alone in a sea of grass, green
Its branches stretch towards the sky
As if to snare the beauty that fell from the sky
Its roots conquer the ground claiming the ground its own
I tear my eyes away and continue on,
My feet thud thud upon the hard black track
Song birds flit about the trees,
Filling the air with clear sharp tunes
Accompanying the percussion of the shoes
The smiles on passing faces, contagious,
A small encouragement to keep going,
They carry a positive energy, linking us together
Along the side of the trail, the grass grows wild
With dandelions and crocuses
Popping their cheery heads into the green wild
The path suddenly twists and curves,
The tree branches lean over the trail,
Creating a tunnel providing me with shade
I continue running and I don’t turn around
Finally I come to a stop.
Not because the trail has ended,
But because I have seen enough today
Someday, I will travel the whole length
Someday, I will discover all there is to be discovered……
