Don't tell me to reach for the sky when there are footprints on the moon...

Alone.
Wandering through the forest
Fresh air, clear thoughts.
A rattle.
A bird swoops down.

Dark as night,
It's eyes watch me.
Judging me.

Fly away, I tell it.
Fly away.
A flash.

Sharps claws against skin.
A scream.
More birds join in.
Help!
They won't stop.

They attack.
Tearing at my soul.
Destroying my dreams.
They leave,
Their job is
Done.

I lay on the cold,
Forest floor.
Helpless,
Heart racing.
Invisible scars,
Reopened.

I tremble.
Sobs racking my body.
Why doesn't the pain
Stop?

In this constant forest,
Called Life,
I am Alone.
