One.
I am beautifully cracked.
Too many of my words have glass between them,
So I apologize if I slice you occasionally.

Two.
My body is a journal;
My stories told in picturesque tattoos and fading scars.
It’s a really interesting tale.
You should read it sometime.

Three.
I’m sorry if I stare at your lips constantly,
But I’m simply calculating the geometry of a kiss from you.
I was never very good at math,
But I’m hoping you’ll be the one to carry me.

Four.
There was someone before you.
He was like Mexico to me;
Hotter than the desert sun, and sweeter than dulce de leche,
With eyes as deep as the Big River, and a mind as sharp as a cactus spine.
And yes, I do still love him.

Five.
Depression is like drowning,
Except you can see the people around you breathing.
Sometimes I’ll need you to remind me that the sea is just a wetter version of the sky,
And that I have all the air in the world.
All I have to do is take it in.

Six.
There is a shoebox underneath my bed.
It’s full of moth-eaten photos dressed in sepia tones.
That’s where I put my sister, and you’ll meet her when the time is right.
Please try your best not to move it; otherwise I’ll never find her again,
And I’m really not ready to say goodbye yet.

Seven.
If the moon and stars were for sale,
I would find a way to purchase them for you.
But then again, the cosmos is just like you:
No one owns them, and no one ever will.

Eight.
When I told you I loved you for the first time,
You smiled like you’d been waiting years to hear it.
And in that moment, I realized I’d been waiting years to tell you.

Nine.
I have a condition called “kaleidoscope heart”.
No matter how many times you turn it,
It will always see something breathtaking when I look at you.
I was born with it, and yes, it is terminal.

Ten.
These are the directions to the other side of someday.
Meet me there when you’re ready.

The author's comments:
I fell in love with someone who could never return my feelings. And before we went back to being "just friends", there were a few things I needed him to know.
