GREY PAVEMENT OVERALLS

Refrains
Go wasted.
Like last
Night's fishcake.

Brightness
Sinks into
The black sea,
Jumping ashore.

Men
Stand in
Grey pavement overalls,
Hawking and dying.

Graves
Lie in
Shadow lands
Of thatched roofs.

Fizzy drinks
Climb the
Coloured straws.
"Slurp!" they say.

Chorus
Walks in
The hallways
Of bow ties.

Hemmed skirts
Stick to
Barbed wire
And marble stones.

Death
Jumps forth
The horn-rimmed
Glass frames.

Park benches
Whisper the end
In their
Suppressed tones.
