Magazine, website & books written by teens since 1989

I am paper

I am paper

I am paper
blank, simple, bare

“Your hair looks ugly in a bun”

crinkle

“You’re a little flubby”

rip
?“Guys don’t like you because you’re a feminist”

tear

crinkle
rip
tear

crinkle
rip
tear

your words break my familiarity
and simplicity:
folds of insults define me

I absorbed every insult
with a new crest,
and accepted with each

crinkle

rip

tear
that I can never be as whole or crisp
as a new single sheet of loose leaf
in September
