The Lake

i sat down by the lake
quietly, it beckoned me close
i wanted to touch the smooth, rippling surface
but i was afraid to get wet
i didn’t leave it’s side though
but i didn’t reach to grab it
i didn’t want to disturb the peace
as i always do
i saw the sunset that rippled of the water below
i thought i might just cry at the pure tranquility
