Lonely streets lay still and dark
Before the world provides a spark
Without its light to give them life
And save its vacancy from strife
For no pain stays too long
Before our wounds can heal
And time will mend what we conceal
And life will end
For one and all
Our lives are but
Ephemeral
And oblivion ceases to exist
Like dew on flowers' evening kiss
It is but a thought, no gruesome word
And yet we have lives to revere
Wasted space and wasted time
Precious dollars turn to dimes
Flashy clothes and brighter bells
Before the final comet fell
Bring the kings and bring the clocks
And show them power's paradox
Shower oaths and shower curses
Before the hatred then reverses
Stab the brave and kill the bold
Before the rust takes over gold
Raising up the dead of old
And giving them the life they sold
Hear them rant and hear them rave
Before they run back to the grave
Only to see it swallowed up
By earth's colossal coverup
Hand them hope and hand them gain
Before they taste the stagnant rain
Let them weigh them out, their lives
And enter utter paradise
Oh, if I should lose my role
A painful torment is my toll
So pray, keep firm my constant soul
For bodies buried, stiff and cold
Prevent me from a bleak escape
Yet give me flight from loosen weight
Keep me strong and build me tall
Don't let them break away my wall
Send me down the darken hall
But don't give way, and let me fall
For when you lift my wings and call
My life is but
Ephemeral
