Write Drunk; Edit Sober. (Ernest Hemingway)

I remember when kids were kids,
And weren’t expected to act right.
I remember when the best cartoons,
Came on Saturday mornings, not all night.
I remember when you had to,
Turn the antenna to clear the TV static.
I remember when there was only one video game,
And I wasn’t very good at it.
I remember when things,
Weren’t that hard to do.
I remember when people didn’t judge,
You for just being you.
I remember when things were much simpler,
Than they now are.
I remember when you had to,
Have talent to be a television star.
I remember when Hey Arnold, Cat Dog,
And Ren & Stimpy were the s***.
I remember when saying no.
to your parents would get you hit.
I remember when women had to be,
Naturally beautiful or oh well.
I remember when little candies,
Came out of a Nestle chocolate shell.
I remember when fashion,
Was just a shirt and jeans.
I remember when what you say,
Was the same as what you mean.
I remember when hard work,
Actually paid off.
I remember when men took care,
If a problem they had caused.
I remember when moms and dads,
Actually stayed together.
I remember when the only disaster,
To worry over was the weather.
I remember when families had,
Everything provided.
I remember when we weren’t,
A nation divided.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem mainly out of frustration at the cartoons that this generation of children is being raised on.. They'll never know the wonders of good television and all the other great things that true 90's kids exprienced.
