Once I Knew

Once

there was this girl I knew.

She dreamed of the sun

every cerulean night

a future, a bright star

she could feel its hope and it was

warm through her eyelids

when she slept under a forever sky.

She strove to near oblivion

to reach her star

but

she fell, shattered by

her own mad attempt at flight.

She could see the eyes of her demon

"i told you it was folly

to even think of it my dear."

Raw and torn and broken,

her face dimmed as she nodded

her light flickered and blinked out

a tear left its stain in the ash.

Now,

She lives alone in a small house

In the mountains deep and far and cold

It rains every twilight.

They say you can see her sometimes

in the wildest of storms

walking tall and graceful

through the mercury drops.

she is alone, frozen and still

she is my lost dream.
