cut the strings

it’s coming soon, this fall I’m about
to take
any moment i could cut the strings and
drop miles down; any moment now, my
heart will explode at your feet
and the true meaning of helplessness is
when you think the danger’s gone, but
the entire time, it’s been nipping at your
heels, biting at your tongue, threatening
to cut the strings
maybe I’m a masochist
maybe I’m cursed
but I can’t get rid of you
and still the ground approaches
