Loneliness Enters

Loneliness enters, wrapping her arm

around my chilled shoulder, clasping

her rosebud hand in mine.

She is dear to me, little sailboat

rocking in the peppery ocean,

eyes stinging from bees, fashioned

from their hives as they roil in

the honeycombed waters.

Across the grass, bodies of people

converge, the masses coiled together,

an anchor of solid color and sound.

Loneliness enters, and we are whisked

away, stranded on an island of

crushing, muffling silence.
