Black

I wear Black
today
Black as your
pupils after
a trip out
with Tina
Black as the night
your sandpaper hands
crept beneath the covers
Black as the violation
you forced on me
Daddy
Black as my tears
Black as your kisses
Black as the thing that grew
in my womb
Black as my blood
that seeped out
from beneath the silver razor
that razor was my savior
Black as the slits across my wrist
slits you never noticed
slits you never asked about
Black as your insincere apologies
after bruises peppered my skin
after blood leaked out between my legs
blood that was my baby
the only thing that wasn’t Black
in my world
you took from me
I died then and
you took me
to a hospital
Black
like
the earth the trees the sky
Black like
my hate of you
my love of you
my fear of you
Daddy
you destroyed me
they knew and took you away they
made me alive again
made me breath heart beat eyes open blood flow
alive
and you found out
thought I would
betray
our dirty little secret
you hanged yourself from your prison cell
breath heart beat eyes open blood flow no more
I let myself cry then
cry laugh smile cut
you were gone
and I was lost
but I wore Black today
not for you
Daddy
Black
for
me.

People are like stained - glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
