“I don’t care if a reader hates one of my stories, just as long as he finishes the book.”
—Roald Dahl, WD

He was the sun to my moon
and the yin to my yang.
Without him,
I am unbalanced.
He was my other half,
the one who completed me.
And I couldn’t ask
for anything more.

He was the apple of my eye
and the center of my universe.
Without him,
I am insubstantial.
He was my post,
my shoulder to lean on.
And I couldn’t ask
for anything more.

He was the white to my black
and the rainbow to my rainy day.
Without him,
I am dull.
He was my happy pill,
the one who
put a smile on my face effortlessly.
And I couldn’t ask
for anything more.

His departure was inevitable.
And until now,
it remains as an enigma.
He left me clues and hints
and problems to solve.
And I couldn’t ask
for anything more.

His sweet voice
still lingers.
I can still hear
his last words.
“It will always be you.”
And I couldn’t ask
for anything more.

His promise runs
through my mind all day.
It’s a repetitive mantra
that feels like schizophrenia. “We’ll see each other again.”
And I couldn’t ask
for anything more.

Every day,
I wait for him
to fulfill his promise.
Even though, in my heart of hearts,
I know it won’t happen.
I long to see his warm,
loving eyes again.
And if I do,
I would never ask
for anything more.
