Sometimes You Don't Understand
Sometimes you don’t understand,
When I talk to you
I want you to take it all away
I want to lean on your shoulder and bury my head in your chest
With your arms around me like a shield from the world
To cry into your chest
So that I can rise again—
Tear-stained face ready to smile and meet the world
Sometimes you don’t understand
That I need you to let me get it out
So it doesn’t bottle up inside me
And then spill out to show the world
How uncontrollable emotions really are
Sometimes I wish you would understand
And give me a hug and consolation
Instead of telling me to stuff the tears back inside
And hide them in a little place far from the outside
But knowing that they are already straining against and stretching
The wrappings I have them in
