I went to the birthday party of a girl
Who had lovely blue eyes
Porcelain skin
And scars lining her wrists

When the cake came
With its fluttering candles
Like the twinkling lights
Of a distant city
Everyone told her what to wish for
Perhaps a new phone
Or to meet her favorite celebrity

But I told her
Laced so quietly in my breath
I wonder if she heard it

I told her to wish to be happy.
