Six years old
Butterfly barrettes and braids
Decorate my hair
First sleepovers, and believing in Santa
Mirror, am I pretty yet?

Ten years old
Headbands and hair ties
Making my hair look “good”
Shirts with flowers, and letting your parents dress you still
Mirror, am I pretty yet?

Fourteen years old
Zits and too much makeup
Worrying about your appearance
Fake smiles, and getting your hopes up
Mirror, am I pretty yet?

Sixteen years old
“Freedom” and driving
Stressed and tired
Pretending to be happy
So they won’t ask
Mirror, am I pretty yet?
