So you say there's a wall between us,
Just age, just friends, just...

I wonder if you realize that you are an architect,
Because all you do is build,
You design and you build,
With all the materials that you need in the palm of your hand.

You built yourself a pedestal,
On which you sit,
For all of the world to see.

You built yourself a bubble,
In which you lure whom you like,
And they stand around your pedestal,
And admire you height.

You built yourself a wall,
Standing between you and I,
Just another measly project that you built on your free time,
It doesn't really matter,
Yet you guard it with your life,
And if I were intruding,
I couldn't help but wonder if you'd stab me with your knife,
The knife you've built,of course,
It's with you on your pedestal,
But you wouldn't recognize it,
I ensure.

I wonder if you realize that I'm an architect,
Because all I do is build,
I design and I build,
With all the materials that I need in the palm of my hand.

I built myself a glass box,
In which I sit,
For all who care to see.

I built myself a personality,
And I'm lured to whom I like,
I offer the truth,
And some offer it back.

I built myself a bridge,
Standing between you and I,
My biggest project; I built it with all of my time,
It shouldn't really matter,
Yet I guard it with my life,
And if you were to cross it,
I couldn't help but wonder if you'd stab me with your knife,
The knife you've built,of course,
You've got in in your hand,
But you wouldn't recognize it,
I ensure.

Written 12/3/09 about an older boy who stopped being my friend when I started high school with him (as I was just a 'lowly freshman'). The friendship became very one sided and eventually faded out.
