But

A happy home,
Uphill somewhere,
A little community,
My abode, my little dome

I can’t complain,
It’s as good as I need,
It’s more than that,
Like a precious creed.
I protect it like my children,
Protect it like my spouse,
Protect it from the hatred,
That creeps in like a mouse.

But

They stole it away,
They took my bliss from me,
They stole it away,
Despite my desperate plea

They dumped all their garbage,
They took away my place,
They spilled all their nonsense,
Just because of my race.

Africville,
The home that we had loved
Africville,
The home from where we’re shoved
