Everyone has a person. A person who you depend on to keep your secrets. A person that you turn to just when you want to have a meaningless conversation because you know it’ll improve your day. It’s a really sad day when you realize you’re not actually someone’s person. Someone seems to invest their time in you and you feel good because you like being depended on. You like the responsibility of improving another life. You then feel so good about helping this person that you actually depend on them for happiness. You feel this sense of interdependence and you believe that the feeling is mutual. This interdependence for happiness feels like love. But sometimes you find out you’re not actually someone’s person. You’re more like a convenience. But it’s too late because now you have invested your time and your love. And love doesn’t go away quite as easily as we sometimes would like it to.
