Don't look into the sun,
They said.
Hers alone is terror,
Beauty.
Hers alone is
Her light.
And hers to keep hidden,
Away.
But I asked them,
Why?
Why can I not
See her?
Why can I not
Ask her?
What part of the truth,
Could be so terrible?

Don't look into the sun,
They said.
She will let your gaze fall,
Back to darkness.
Enjoy her gifts,
Earth and sky.
Question not her
Ways.
But I desire sun,
Not earth.
I desire light,
Not shadow.
And I desire the truth,
Hidden in her rays.

And so I ran out,
Of the city.
And so I ran out,
Of my home,
And threw my eyes up,
Up to the sun.
And I saw for an instant,
Truth,
And centuries of foolishness,
And wisdom.
And ages of pain,
And beauty.
And millenia of hate,
And love.
But then my eyes fell to the earth,
And there was nought but darkness.
