Pocket Watch Heart This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

Tick, tick, tick
The pocket watch of your heart
Ticks
As you slumber
On cushions of searing reality
Wrapped in a blanketed dream.

Your paper thin skin
Ripples with each
Spurt of inhalation
While hair-covered ears
Run to and fro
Listening to the unheard.

Sleepy rainwater warmth runs
Off of you in waves.
And a tongue lulling
Like the unconscious brain
Click, click, clicks
Between sharp stone teeth
Under a dry nose.

Time slows in
Sealed pearl eyes
And claws twitch
Slightly to the rhythm
Of the
Tick, tick, tick.
Time halts.
