Silent Tears

Ever since you were a child you, were told that it’s okay to cry.
You would let the tears fall freely from your eye.
But as the years roll past and the older you grow.
The more things you think that no one wants to know.
It’s easy to let loose the pain.
To let it wash down your cheeks like rain.
To feel the warmth of another person near.
To let you know there is nothing to fear.
But sometimes that’s not the way that it works.
Sometimes a monster inside you lurks.
Longing to be let loose and free.
You hold it in a let it be.
No matter how much it bites.
You hold it in on countless fights.
When people tell you it’s okay, they lied.
And so you keep it bottled up inside.
You keep your head down and hope they don’t see.
How changed you are from the one you used to be.
Angry tears fall the loudest.
Happy tears fall the warmest.
Hurt tears fall the softest.
But silent tears fall the hardest….
