"Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, in as much as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true, and very fresh experience points out some form of error which we shall afterward carefully avoid"John Keats

I met Darrel passing though
He drew me a picture
Of pearls falling from flowers
Spinning on a dart board
All reflected in a mirror.
I found it astounding,
He found it alarming
How the scene amused me-
I insisted indeed so
A deed so contrite
Can incite emotions
With pensive might.

He said “Walk with me,
I see ghosts glowering at warmth
Wafting above friends tinkling glasses
Like corpses on a scaffold.
See the stars? The moon, you say?
The stars light the doorways
Opened by resolve
Found by those who sought escape
Thus creating portals out of here.
The moon rounds the end of God’s telescope
As He scrutinizes men each night,
You can see him slowly drift to sleep
Because humans exist in mediocrity.
No, you are not boring,
But, then again, my darling,
You are not human;
Love, your birth on earth was a mistake,
Yet, nonetheless jocund am I
To have discovered you are alive
Your steps scatter the rodents
And pests residing on earth
Even the viper recoils from you,
Though your soft hand could harm it not
Its slight touch warms my thoughts
I taste your fingers-
Is this my heart beating?
Come, breathe life into me
Again and once more,
Save my soul
My soul!
To think I once denied thee!”

I kissed him.
He spoke truth and fantasy
As one and the same.
So I became a muse
Until morning came
I woke alone again
Finding my purpose to amuse
Fulfilled for him.
If ever he passes through again
I swear I’ll drink less gin
Paying closer attention
To his bitter perception,
And if ever he decides to call
I’ll show him his picture
Framed upon my wall.
