I Am A Wolf

I am a wolf and I run, wild and free through the grass and heather
Hunting with my pack, there can be no greater feat
As we take down our prey, then devour the meat
My teeth fasten on bones and flesh, as if with a tether

Then as winter draws near, we flee the gun
The humans, they shoot every last one
We try to escape, try to run
But in the end, our lives are done

I take the bullet, and blood pools ‘round my head
Pain is all I know, before I join the dead
But maybe my brethren can be spared, before they are downed
Before their bodies become one with the ground

I am a wolf, and I am no more
Help end the blood and gore
