Steps into love, confident as a prowling lion
Tiptoes into it, careful as a mouse
Glides into it, gracefully as a dolphin
Creeps into it, slowly as a snail
We all fall into it
Flat on our faces
Limbs flailing trying to get their balance
In the new world they’ve entered
Everyone tumbles into it
Crashing and burning just as the love story begins
Not as it ends
Though sometimes it doesn’t
And the feeling endures
Condemning you to be insanely happy
(Yet still very much insane)
For as long as your lives together last
To get that type of love
You can’t just dip your toe in the water
Leaving most of yourself hidden above the surface
Keeping the crazy joyful addictive thing called love
Trapped under the water’s heavy weight
You have to cannonball in
Creating a splash that lasts forever
Creating ripples that endure until the pool dries up
Keeping your love alive until the very end of eternity
For almost nothing lasts forever
Everything dies eventually
Even suns, stars, moons, planets, galaxies
Even universes have expiration dates
But those few things that do last forever
Are those that are never given the chance to die
Those that live on while everything else is gone
Even if they are only in our minds and hearts
And the only thing that can do that
Has to be loved
So I guess the lesson is
Live with love
For without it, everything is meaningless
And the only way to a get a true love
Is to jump in
Whether you belly-flop or land on your head
Is unimportant
As long as you found the person
That lights a fire in your heart so large and hot
That its smoke rises and clouds your thoughts
To the point where you can barely understand yourself
That you found the person that
You would run down the aisle for
And wake up to everyday
And still think is the best person in the world
The person that you would do anything for
And would do anything for you
The person that you trust unconditionally
The person that you could love into infinity
