Favorite Quote:
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Chapped lips in the winter freeze,
burnt skin in the summer heat,
trips to who knows where with friends,
the teenage years.

Homework piled up for days,
book reports about the movies,
always ditching class on Friday,
the teenage years.

Stressing over college prep,
writing essay after essay,
acceptance letters from that school,
the teenage years.

20 years from now you'll think
'Those were the best times of my life'
but were they really all that great,
the teenage years?

The author's comments:
High school is often considered the best four (or five) years of your life, but what if you're an outcast?

I really enjoyed this poem because of how much is resonated with me. I think that in general, it's silly to generalize a period of a person's life as being good or bad, because every single part of life has its ups and downs.
