Faintly dazzling, she was,

White socks and all.

Her heels, they clicked

OneTwoThree

Curled up in blue velvet chaises, a kitty-cat dreamer.

Swing band seduction, the lavish guests sway

Melting into a single vivacious pulse,

Vintage jewels and champagne glasses

Spraying their cool light to soften the dying rays of day.

Forced to become of age, too soon, in her hand-me-down Chanel,

Courtesy of the mother she knew only whispers of.

Luscious smoke snaking along oriental wallpaper,

Slipping into pure lungs

She belonged to everyone,

Yet to no one.

La Vie En Rose, the record spun so dreamily,

Just as her frayed tulle across the pale ballroom floor—

“Call me Jane,”

Because they never could figure out her name.
