like water down canvas
the fire raged, ravenously rummaging
through family photos
baby’s clothes
an author’s forgotten manuscript
taking lives without taking them
leaving only victims, survivors
you broke into my heart like
and old friend
I let you in just fine
you flashed me a smile and
my wallet disappeared
as you comforted me
my tv
and my life
all vanished behind
your lying eyes
vanished before
my blinded eyes
I saw you then for what you are:
